hooking up a frx-s8 subwoofer to my stereo system

According to the FRX_S8 manual I have three options to hook this sub up to my stereo:

    1) High Pass Connection

    2) Low Pass Connection

    3) Connection via the Xcross over

I have  a sub preout on the new AV receiver. I connected the preout from the AV Receiver to the low pass connection on on the amp via an RCA Jack.  I am getting a lot of bass from the stereo overall!

Is the high pass connection a better way to go???. If so how do I hook it up?. Do I connect the left and right channels from the AV receiver to the right and left channels on the high pass connection on the amp then run speaker wires from the left and right high pass connections on the amp to my right and left speakers?????. How is this better for sound quality and control???

I understand the Xcrossover is an option to consider as it seperates the sound (80 mhz and lower is filteredto the amp and 80 mhz or higher is sent to the speakers). The only drawback I see is controlling the volume. How is that accomplished???
