I don't think Mirage is promoting the OMD series. Unfortunately, I think they are discontinuing them. You can pick up sweet deals from an authorized Mirage dealer on the internet. I hope they get to design another high quality floor stand speaker and develop the next gen tweeter...
I have a pair of OMD-28's enroute as we speak...
I already have the OMD-C1, OMD-5s and OMD-15s in a 5.1 setup and they rock! I love having main speakers that sound great in stereo and work in a HT application too. I also have a 7.1 setup of the old - OM-C1, OM-6s, OM-R2s, OM-10s.
I cannot compare the two systems. The old has a Denon 3505 AVR running them and the new ones have a parasound new classic set up. I always liked the old set up - the om-6s are a great main speaker and watching movies kicked butt.
I did A/B the OM-6 and the OMD-15 with the 250w Parasound amp and the OM-6 never sounded better. The OMD-15 had a better high freq soundstage while the OM-6 was fuller in the low freq. That's probably due to the powered subwoofer in the 6. Had the output at 11:00 and crossover at 12:00. I had my wife A/B the two pair and she could not really tell the difference. She did notice it not sounding as well when it went back to the old Denon AVR.
Both pair of speakers sounded great.
I really can't wait to A/B the 28s to the 15s; the 28s to the 6s; then the 15's to the 6's again. First I need to receive the 28's and run them for 100 hours to break them in...
I cannot compare the two systems in a HT setting. The rooms are different. The new set up is 5.1 in a smaller room with a smaller tv. The OMD-5's are on end tables beside the couch. The other setup has the OM-10s in the back and the OM-R2s on the sides. The OM-6's are kiddie corner - not the most ideal setup. The ceiling is knee walls then catherdral ceilings. I would say that the 15s and the C1 blend seamlessly together. You really can't tell which speaker is active in movies. Even lame TV audio mix (voice in CC, effects in main) sounds pretty good.
I have a pair of the OMD-5's in a 4 season porch and another pair in the bedroom. The bedroom setup sounds great - not a critical listening area. The 4-season sounds good, but they're bright (all glass walls, cathedral ceiling) and not a strong low end, but I've felt that about the OM-10s too.
These are the only two lines I've owned besides a starter pair of Boston Acoustics when I was in college and I am quite happy with the Mirage line. I would say Mirage took a technology leap for the better when comparing the OM (even numbers) (Ian Paisley design) with the OMD (Andy Welker design). I never heard the OM odd number line or any of the early Welker designs.
