MS-STB Stands Don't Work With Nanostat?

I just received my stands and there is no way to properly attach the speakers to them. In fact, while trying to get a speaker on the stand I dropped it and broke off one of the speaker wire attachment posts. So now I'm really ticked off and want to know what I should do.

As for the brackets, there are two in the box.
One is shaped like the heal of a shoe with three holes for attaching a speaker (not Nanosat) and one large one in the center for attaching to the stand.

The other is bent like a "U" with one hole for attaching to the stand and another smaller hole (threaded?!) for attaching a speaker (not the Nanosat). The threaded hole actually prevents me from mount the speaker as it also has a threaded hole. There are no instruction for attaching the nanostat speakers on the rather poorly illustrated instruction sheet.

Have any of you tried these stands with Nano's?

The brackets and all hardware are enclosed with the stand.

The slot head ¼-20 screw will be furnished with the Nanosat.

The through hole in the bracket marked A in the diagram is sometimes caked with paint or debris which may be difficult to begin threading.

A ¼-20 bolt (can be sourced elsewhere) can be passed through a couple of times to clean out the threads.

Then assemble the parts as shown in the diagram.

I have to agree with you on this.   I just spent the best part of Saturday morning scratching my head wondering why the stands have instructions that show how to attach speakers that look nothing like the nanostats I just purchased.

Yes it is true that the Nanostat can be attached to the stand with a lot of hard work threading and unthreading of the slot screw to the top but it is clear that these stands were not originally designed to attach to these speakers.  The mode of attachment of the speakers shown in the instruction sheet that comes with the stands shows a much more solid mounting means.

One would expect more from mirage in view of their proven commitment to quality.

Re: MS-STB Stands Don't Work With Nanostat?

I was having the same issue trying to attach the NanoSat to the stand.  I guess they can be attached by forcing the "slot head" through the "U" shaped bracket.  I tried that, but figured there was a mistake because the hole in the bracket seemed way too small.  I'll try again...

Any tips on feeding the wires through the poles of the stand?  I guess I got a thick set of speaker wires, which can still be fed through, but its too tight to maneuver in any way, and I have no idea how to pull them out the other end.  Any tips would be appreciated.

(updated next day: I was actually able to attach the speakers to the stand fairly easily, I just didn't want to force anything before. I ran the slot-head screw through the U shaped bracket a few times, then was able to fairly easily attach the bracket to the stand and the speaker to the bracket).

Funny, I having exactly the same problem.  I am running 12 gauge calbes through the ceiling which I cannot take out now so this is turning into a nightmare.  I can get the cable through the hole but not feed it through.

    ANY IDEAD MIRAGE?

    Thanks

Please see the most recent threads on problems with these stands.  We can just about manage to attach the speakers but feeding cables through is next to impossible.

Please let us have your advice on this.

    Thank you.

Re: MS-STB Stands Don't Work With Nanostat?

    Hi englishman,

Try this technique. I have used this many times and found success each time.

Get a small length of ball chain ( the stuff pens are attached to so no one can steal it at your local bank; also found in keychains or to open and close some vertical blinds) Tape it carefully in line with the wire (not terminated and not split together yet . . . This taped joint must be smaller than the openings for this method to work!!!!) and then starting from the bottom hole feed the ball chain and wire through towards the top. You may have to shake and or tilt the stand until the ball chain finds it's way tthrough the upper opening in the stand. Once it falls out a bit, carefully pull the ball chain and simultaneously feed more wire from the bottom so the the taped connection does not fail. pull out enough wire and then terminate.

BTW this system is also useful in feeding wires through built in walls. The ball chain is magnetic and could be caught with a extendible neodynium magnet gizmo available at most hardware stores. The magnet system may also conceivably be used here but since the stand is made of steel  ?????

This method is known as a "wet noodle" in the installation trade. The ball chain method  is a proven time saver that allows you to "fish" wire through small openings with or without the use of the magnet.

Take your time and you will make it!!

    Good Luck! Smile

I can get this setup to work, based on the diagram and using the supplied slot head screws. However, the screws do not go all the way in to the bracket (A) and leave the Nanosat floating like a bobble head doll. The slot-head screw is not threaded all the way and therefor cannot be screwed in flush to the bracket.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I put a thick plastic washer between the speaker and the bracket to take up the space. This worked well.

I was considering something like that. I'm glad to hear it worked for you. I will give that a shot. Thanks for the idea.

I just recently purchased the nanosats and was thinking about buying these stands before I read the posts in this forum. Did you ever get these to work properly with the speakers. Have you heard of any other speaker stands that may be compatible with the nanosats.

    thanks

I have not heard of any other stands that might work but then again I didn't really try to find any. The washer idea will definitely work but I haven't taken the time to find them. I plan to look for black plastic tubing of some sort.  The stands "work" as is (after a little bit of a struggle to make the screw fit).  However, there's just a wobbly feeling to the speakers upon mounting. This washer/tubing idea should fill the gap (once I take the time to look!).

The washer thing worked fine. The other thing that made using these easier was that I split the speaker wires so that I had two single strands to pull through the post.

FYI: I recently took 2 of the speakers off the stands and put them on top of my entertainment center. In order to have them pointing downward I had to design and fabricate two steel brackets/stands. They are basically a "C" shape with the top end tappered to fit into the mounting pocket of the speaker. It seems stupid to me that Mirage doesn't sell a bracket like this. Hey Mirage! Want to buy my design?
