    Re: M-1 tweeters

I am also in need of an M-1 tweeter rebuild or replacement.  Contact with Klipsch Americas was of limited help.  I was told that they do not have tweeter replacements and do not do rebuilds.  They suggested that I look for a local audio shop that does speaker repair (thanks a lot!), but the best places in Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA, indicated that they would go to Klipsch for replacement parts (!).  When pressed, the Klipsch parts representative said that I "might try" Sybesma Electronics in Holland, MI.  Sybesma referred me to their affiliate, I. A. Electronics, in Indianapolis, IN.  A technician there -- the most helpful & cordial individual in my search thus far -- said that if I ship the tweeter, they would do an assessment and provide an estimate.  The components would not necessarily be the same as the original.

Before proceeding, does anyone else have other leads, suggestions, or experience replacing an M-1 tweeter?

Biggest problem there is these tweeters were hand built and hand tuned..........so would be no use to use a replacement as it would not be a correct match.....API might do rebuilds this Spring..let me know if you have progress in the tweeter search...

    Re: M-1 tweeters

I have one brand new M1 tweeter and four brand new M1 midrange units. These were the last tweeter and midrange units that Mirage had in stock prior to their takeover and I snapped them up as spares for my beloved Mirage M1's that I was never going to part with. Unfortunately, circumstances caused a move to a much smaller house and I had to sell the M1's. I've hung on to the drivers in the hope that I would one day purchase another pair of M1's but this does not look likely in the near future. I'd be happy to pass these units on at cost price to anyone who can make use of them to keep their M1's going. I will have to dig out the paperwork to see how much they cost me. If anyone is interested please contact me.

    Regards

    Re: M-1 tweeters

Hello, I am selling a pair of M1 speakers with new tweeters and midrage speakers.  Also am selling a pair of M1-si speakers.  I am selling these for a friend who now needs the money.   I am looking for $2800 for the M1-si and  $2300 for the M1.

Also the M1-si have always been powered by the Conrad Johnson Evolution 2000 amplifier.   This is also for sale  Asking $2800 for the amp.  It was at conrad johnson last year for a quick fix with the power switch.   It comes with box and shipping crate.  This amp is heavy at 117 pounds, the transformer itself weighs around 57 pounds.  Plenty of reserve power.  Also comes with 4 new tubes still in the box from conrad johnson

Hi M1 enthusiast. I just purchased a pair of M1's and turns out they have 3 blown tweeters. Do you still have your parts for sale? This is my first pair of Mirage speakers. Even with the blown tweeters they sound amazing. Please respond to bob -at- Cowart dot com (fix that to be an email address)

    Re: M-1 tweeters

Here's more info got from Chris. And btw the phone # is dead but the email works. I'm currently waiting for a production run of voice coils for M1-1 Diaphragms. I ran out a while back. I purchased the original diaphragm press from API and have done a run of diaphragms but need the coils to complete. I anticipate being ready to rebuild again within the next month or so. Check back in with me in a month and I'll give you an update. Christopher Information Guide Ref: Energy Pro/Ref 22, Image, & Mirage M1-1 Tweeters: Failure: The normal failure mode for these tweeters is due to the ferro fluid evaporating / migrating out over the years thus the coil cannot be properly cooled and fails during use. The ferro fluid also functions to dampen the tweeter softening the tone somewhat. Due to this a lot of people opt to rebuild tweeters in pairs to assure a perfectly matched set and avoid extra postage should the second one fail shortly after the first is rebuilt. A newly rebuilt tweeter will sound different from an older tweeter that is fatigued and / or lacking fluid. Rebuilding: The rebuild process includes removing the old diaphragm, cleaning the gap of residue from the old fluid, cleaning and verifying the gap dimensions and flux density of the magnet assy, installing a new charge of ferro fluid and brand new diaphragm, and finally tuning and testing to original specifications. Each rebuild includes a new trim foam for the face of the tweeter.  Guarantee: ABI Technical Service is the only factory authorized source for rebuilding these tweeters. Anyone else advertising their ability to rebuild them is very simply telling you a lie. Having purchased the original diaphragm press, tooling, and remaining stock of parts from API prior to their sale to the Klipsch Group, we will continue to support these legacy products well into the future. This combined with over 15 years experience with these products insures you a perfect rebuild to original factory standards and a guarantee of 6 months against defects of the replacement diaphragm. Should you have any doubts please contact the Klipsch Group for advise - they will be pleased to inform you of their opinion on our work. Removal: To remove the Energy 22, Image, or Mirage M1-1 tweeter peel the black trim foam off the face of it. Don't worry about destroying the foam - I supply a new one with each rebuilt tweeter. Next, remove the three or four screws near the outside edge of the tweeter, not the inside group near the centre. The tweeter should now come out of the hole The wires have quick disconnect lugs on them and simply pull off the tweeter. These lugs are phased so they only connect one way thus insuring the tweeter will be hooked back up correctly.  Packaging: Utmost care should be taken as your tweeters are not replaceable! I strongly recommend you package the tweeter(s) very well to insure against damage in shipping. Double wrapping each one in bubble packing is ideal. Tweeters with the black plastic faces are very susceptible to damage of the outer flange edge and or cracking of the face. Once wrapped the tweeters should be packaged in a box with adequate packing all around to avoid movement within the box during shipping. Placing them horizontally is best, stacking them if in pairs. Payment: Cost is $160.00 per tweeter plus return shipping. Turnaround time here in Halifax is usually one or two days after being received. Payment can be made by PayPal online to this email address, Postal Money Order, or cheque. Items prepaid by PayPal ship immediately upon completion, payments by money order or cheque will delay shipment until payment clears. Shipping: If shipping from outside Canada please ship them by POST ONLY marking clearly on the package- "MADE IN CANADA - RETURNING FOR FACTORY SERVICE".  This will ensure their arrival without customs or clearing charges that couriers will charge greatly increasing the cost of the shipping! All countries have multiple levels of postal service and you should have no problem getting an insured and trackable service.  I will send them back by Expedited Parcel Post, insured and with a tracking number. Shipping address is below. Please let me know when you have sent them so I can be on the lookout for them.
